Fredericksburg, TX

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

As many of you already know, I transferred from the University of Denver to the University of North Texas after my freshman year of college. During orientation week at UNT I met one of the goofiest, go-with-the-flow gals I know, Kendyl (Bohn) Van Gundy. We quickly became close friends bonding over teaching kiddos, planning our futures, & Grey’s Anatomy. During our senior year of college we both got engaged and asked each other to be in our weddings. So with wedding planning in full swing, we headed to Fredericksburg, Texas for Kendyl’s bachelorette party in June.

Our itinerary

Day 1:

Kendyl had 4 bridesmaids total and at the time everyone was living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Kendyl, myself, and 2 other bridesmaids, Danielle and Laura, all carpooled from Fort Worth to Fredericksburg together. It’s about a 4 hour drive but super easy! I highly recommend not driving through Austin, Texas because there is always traffic and will add lots of time to the trip. Once we all arrived at the house, we changed, got ready, and Ubered to dinner at Hondo’s on Main, which was about 10 minutes away. Super cute, Texas themed restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We all got some form of BBQ and listened to live music while catching up. After dinner we headed back to our Airbnb for some bridal activities, had a few drinks, and went to bed to rest up for our busy weekend.

Day 2:

Saturday morning we got up pretty early and enjoyed a nice homemade brunch at our Airbnb. After filling ourselves with plenty of muffins and mimosas, we got ready and headed to our first wine tasting. At this time I wasn't the biggest fan of wine (don’t worry I am a total believer now) so I was the DD for the group. We drove from the house to Barons Creek Vineyard which was only 5 minutes away. This vineyard is absolutely breathtaking! It has a Spanish-style ambience to it with huge windows and a big fountain in the middle. We did make a reservation at this winery, which I highly recommend. It was pretty busy when we went but we got to do our tasting right away. The girls had a mix of red and white wines and were even allowed to stroll the property during the tasting. After we finished our first tasting we headed towards Main Street. Here we just walked up and down the streets popping into different boutiques and wineries. At both Fiesta Winery and Fat Ass Ranch Winery they sampled a collection of red and white wine. Both of these wineries were definitely more casual and welcomed walk-ins. All 3 tasting were reasonably priced and offered many different options for tastings. After the third tasting we were ready for some food! We ate lunch and ice cream (duh) at Clear River Deli located on Main Street.

After we had all finished eating we went back to the house, took a quick power nap, then got ready for dinner. We hopped in a quick 5 minute Uber to Vaudeville which is where we had reservations for dinner. Our table was actually downstairs in their Bistro area which was very sedulated and modern. At night they dim the lights for a more elegant and mysterious feel which was super fun! We got a delicious charcuterie board for the table plus drinks all around. For dinner we ended up ordering a couple of meals to split between all of us which was the perfect amount of food! After paying the bill we got back in an Uber and headed to the house to pregame a bit more before going out to Crossroads. When we first showed up to crossroads it was a little slow but we got there a little early (around 9 pm). By 10 pm, it was popping! They had a live band playing music and pulling people on stage to dance and sing their hearts out! Drinks were super reasonably priced and there were 2 bars conveniently located next to the dance floor. We ended up shutting Crossroads down and had the best night jamming out to oldies but goodies and today’s hits too!

Day 3:

We slept in as much as we could Sunday morning before we had to clean up, pack up, and head back home. The Airbnb owner left great instructions on what to do before we left which made our “check-out” process super easy. After saying our goodbyes to each other and Josephine, we hit the road and counted down the days until Kendyl and Ryan said I do!

Fredericksburg is such a unique city to visit and perfect for celebrating any special occasion!

Where to stay

Sloane, Kendyl’s maid of honor, did an amazing job picking out our Airbnb for the weekend. We stayed at Josephine (the name of the house) which was one of the cutest Airbnb’s I’ve ever seen, perfect for a bachelorette party or girls weekend. It had 2 bedrooms with king sized beds, 1 bathroom, plus a couch that doubled as a pullout bed. It’s located about 10 minutes from Main Street, which is where most of the bars and restaurants are located plus some wineries too! Luckily there are a lot of options when it comes to stay however, I would definitely recommend staying close to Main Street. Whether you stay in an Airbnb, Vrbo, or hotel you can’t go wrong with staying close to all the action!
